In this workshop we will explore from a yogic and ayurvedic aspect a universal experience - that of pain.
Pain often arrives uninvited. It may take the form of physical discomfort, emotional grief, or an unspoken inner tension — a heaviness that lingers beneath the surface. In our culture, we are taught to avoid pain, numb it, fix it, or push through it. But yoga offers us a different path: the path of presence.
In the yogic tradition, pain is not seen as an enemy, but as a messenger. It speaks in the language of sensation, revealing places within us where something longs to be seen, felt, or healed. Through the lens of the koshas — the five layers of being — pain can be understood as not only physical (annamaya kosha) but also energetic, emotional, mental, and spiritual. When we listen closely, we begin to perceive its depth and meaning.

WHAT WE WILL COVER:

THE KOSHAS
The five koshas are layers or sheaths of being, described in Yogic philosophy as representing different aspects of the human experience, from the physical to the most subtler levels of energy. Together they form a map of the Self. Working with the koshas can help us move towards greater balance and wholeness

YOGIC APPROACH
Pain is not only a physical sensation - in yogic philosophy, it is also a message, a teacher, and an invitation to awareness. Yoga offers a multidimensional framework for understanding pain, not as an enemy, but as a doorway to deeper presence and healing.

AYURVEDIC APPROACH
In Ayurveda pain is a signal of imbalance - a disturbance in the flow of energy or harmony of the doshas. It may arise from stagnation, depletion, or inflammation, rooted in diet, lifestyle or emotions. Ayurveda traces its cause and nature. Through herbs, oils, and gentle shifts in living, the goal is to restore balance, so the body can heal .

In this 90 MINS workshop, we’ll look at pain through a different lens—not as an obstacle, but as a teacher. With gentle guidance and practical tools drawn from these ancient sciences, you’ll begin to understand the root causes of your discomfort and discover simple, effective ways to restore ease and flow in your life.

The first hour will explain the different levels of pain, giving guidance, practice and suggestions.
The last 30 mins will focus on balancing body and mind with gentle breathwork, and meditative practice that was described during the talk.

If you have specific questions, you will need to submit them to me BY EMAIL by Monday 5th May, 6pm at the latest.  I may include my response during the talk.
